Filmgalopp Grand Prize awarded jointly to our students
10 October 2022

On October 8th the jury of the competition programme of the Transylvanian Hungarian Film Festival Filmtettfeszt (DEÁK Dániel - festival organizer, film distributor and producer from Budapest; KERÉKGYÁRTÓ Yvonne - film director, screenwriter; PERNECKER Dávid - film theorist and critic from Pécs) awarded the Grand Prize of the event jointly, while the Audience Award and two special prizes were also won by graduates of the Faculty of Sciences and Arts in Cluj-Napoca.

This year's Filmgalopp Grand Prize was shared between NAGY Márton's film Így gyújtottam fel a barátnőmet a harmadik randinkon / How My Girlfriend ignited on Our Third Date, and the short film Játsszuk tovább / Let's keep playing directed by FARKAS Ágnes Anna. According to the jury, "both films have a unique voice".

In the case of the short film Így gyújtottam fel a barátnőmet a harmadik randinkon / How My Girlfriend ignited on Our Third Date, they pointed out that "this film would be appreciated anywhere in the world, as it combines local specific content with the freshness of independent film. When we saw this film, we all thought that making it was certainly a lot of fun, but it also meant a lot of work".

As for the short film Játsszuk tovább / Let's keep playing, they appreciated "the strength of the directorial concept and the sensitive use of cinematic language. This film tells the story not only of people, but also of a place, and is thus a very good example of how sometimes a seemingly simple situation can be incredibly diverse and rich if the creators develop it in detail". The jury "particularly appreciated" the "firm direction of the actors". The viewer himself feels as if they were part of the on-screen community, as if the characters' pasts unfolded in their presence. This is possible because we see multi-dimensional characters, whose subtle twitches reveal their relationships with each other, along with their dialogue. In this film, we see all generations authentically represented, the film draws us into its world and doesn't let us leave even when the credits roll."

The festival's grand prize of 1 million HUF was donated by the National Film Institute and the trophy was sponsored by the Liszt Institute in Bucharest.

The ten films in the competition were available online from the beginning of the festival until midnight last night, and voting was also made available online. This year's Audience Award winner was the 17-minute film called Finding Zoé directed by MIKOLA Csengele. This year's Audience Award also comes with a cash prize of 1000 lei from Nobila Casa.

The jury also awarded two special prizes to Freedom Rider by LÁSZLÓ Barna and Suborbital by SÓS Timothy. The special prizes were two shopping vouchers worth 250 lei each, offered by Nobila Casa.

Congratulations to all!
